Frog is truly delicious coffee, signle origin from Mexico, a richly-flavoured altura rustica bean which has been afforded the proper time to mature in the shaded mists of 500 year old trees. Its taste is wonderful, but the story it tells is the reason it sells.
At the centre of that story is a frog that represents the heart of the Cloud Forest ecosystem. Like the beans of Frog Friendly Coffee, they only exist on the trees that protect them all.
The native people who harvest the wild-growing coffee are the descendants of those who sowed the beans about the forest centuries ago when Cortez left them behind on his return trip to Spain. They are the last of the Olmec, the Cloud People, whose history reaches back into the mists of recorded history.
Living in small villages spread across the Cloud Forest outside Oaxaca, Mexico, they have for countless generations suffered and celebrated the foibles of fate with incredible resilience and spirit. Yet, they have done this without any of the fundamentals we take for granted in our own culture. Schools, medical clinics, basic shelter: Frog is helping to make these building blocks for basic living a reality.
Frog Friendly Wild Coffee emerged from one woman's desire to bring the flavour and philosophy of Mexico's Oaxacan Rainforest into the home kitchen. When Karla Ferster brought the first shipments of Frog Friendly to market in 2004, she unleashed a truly delicious and conscious cup that had been brewing for a lifetime.
Ferster's passion for honouring Frog Friendly's origins has been passed on to the consumer and farmers alike with a portion of all funds raised directed towards improving the livelihood of those responsible for its harvest. Entrepreurial, compassionate, visionary, Frog Friendly's founder has tapped into the ultimate in good taste - a humane bean for human beings.
