Slodki Slony, Mokotowska 45, Warsaw
Open until late daily, Slodki Slony is the place to satisfy your sugar
cravings while in Warsaw. Upon entering, your eyes will be drawn to the caked
counter to the left of the entrance, especially to the red- and white-petalled
cakes in the display window. (If I remember correctly, the red on is black
forest and the white one is either a cheesecake or some sort of vanilla cream
cake.) Other pastries that I managed to try include a meringue with caramel,
another meringue with berries, and a flaky flat pastry with vanilla
and almond cream.
All these sweets are nicely accompanied by a coffee,
tea or latte, but the cappuccino was a tad weak (I needed at least three for the
caffeine to kick in). The café is set in a lovely wood- and floral-themed décor
that is a cross between Victorian and Polish countryside.
The saltier
side of the menu features more Polish fare including mushroom pancakes and
pierogies, as well as a daily menu lisiting pasta.
Slodki Slony has
replaced Green Coffee as my favourite café in Warsaw.
